Welcome to my website. I received my PhD in 1998 on Evolutionary Optimization and Fuzzy Control of Complex Systems from the University of New Mexico (UNM). From 1996-2002, I was also affiliated with the NASA Center for Autonomous Control Engineering at UNM. In 2006, I spent one year as a visiting scholar at Berkeley Initiative on Soft Computing (BISC), UC Berkeley. In 2007, I also collaborated with Purdue University as a consulting faculty.

I am currently a member of the IEEE Task force committee on Fuzzy Systems, a council member of IFSA (International Fuzzy Systems Association), and a council member of the Intelligent Systems Scientific Society of Iran (ISSSI). I have received several awards including: the Excellent Leadership Award in 2010 from the IDB, the Outstanding Faculty Award in 2008 and 2002, the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in 1998, and Service Award from the Mathematics Honor Society in 1989.

My research interests are in the areas of uncertain and complex systems, population-based optimization, fuzzy logic and control, soft computing, distributed AI and multi-agent systems, robotics, and biomedical engineering systems. I have published over 330 peer-reviewed articles in these and related research fields.
